"Blot" is the term for sacrifice in Norse paganism. A Vinterblot took place in the darkest time of the year in Scandinavia during the Viking era and could be dedicated to any of the Norse gods, the spirits of the land or to ancestors. The sacrifice involved aspects of a sacramental meal, feast and beer.
